WhiteRose Flyball Teams

Wagtails - Bushytails - Curlytails - Bobtails - Newtails

About us.

Flyball is essentially a fun, competitive team sport. It is great fun for both the dogs, handlers and helpers. We are always taking new members, whether you have a dog or not. Dogs can be any shape or size, should be fit, energetic and love fetching balls.

The dogs run up over four jumps (maximum height 16" depending on the dogs height). The dog presses a box which releases a tennis ball, which the dog catches. The dog returns down the jumps and the next dog goes. It is like a relay with four dogs in each team. The teamwork of both dogs and handlers is so very important. Members are encouraged to get involved by helping while their dogs are not running. A lot can be learned by this. The more you help, the quicker you learn. We support each other.

Our team manager, Carol Bridgman, used to run with the Wakefield Tykes, a division one team. She left there to start the WhiteRose flyball club in the Summer of 2000 to enable more dogs and their owners from the north of England to enjoy this fast growing sport. We are the only British Flyball Association (BFA) registered team in the Kirklees area.

The WhiteRose flyball teams would like to thank the Dewsbury Rams who are allowing us to use a piece of spare land adjacent to their training ground.

Each flyball club has a uniform and for the WhiteRose flyball club it is:

  • Green polo shirt, sweatshirt, fleece and baseball cap - all with our team logo.
  • Black trousers.

Since starting the club there have been many families who have experienced the fun of flyball and we now have a core of about 10 dogs and their owners who are completely bitten by the bug but new members are always welcome (with or without dogs). We intake new dogs from six months of age on the first Saturday of each month.

Dogs can run in starters (in netting ) at 12 months old ,but they must be 18 months old to compete in a BFA competition for points.
